Domain Name Question

Domain Names Showing Moniker Tag And Designation

“We are writing to tell you that southwalesstorage.com will be listed for auction soon.  This domain might be useful for you, since you own a domain similar to this domain.

Hi Ryan, Is this of any use to my company?”

Keywords in your domain name work very well, but south-wales too broad. If they had cardiffstorage.co.uk it would be better. There were 320 searches on Google last month for ‘south wales storage’, 2.5k for ‘cardiff storage’.

The more niche the higher the conversion rate and the quicker the results. ‘cardiff self storage’ has 590 monthly searches. Domain cardiff-self-storage.co.uk, going for only those keywords, nothing else on the site unless it’s to do with self storage. A sales funnel “Click here for Guaranteed Cheapest, Safe Storage in Cardiff Quote”.

AdWords clicks are going to cost £4, 9 people are going to see your advert and you’ll get 1 per day clicking it (Google’s estimates and always wrong. As you can see by the monthly searches Google have, 19 people will see your advert per day. Also Google show a 5.3% of people clicking your advert, I can show you 25% on campaigns we’ve set up)

Organic clicks (Google searches), there is no guarantee with Google, but ‘cardiff self storage’ should be on the first page well within the first 3 months, ‘self storage’ while searching within the Cardiff area by 6 months, with articles, backlinks, etc.

It’s looking at numbers and seeing if it’s worth doing… And to begin with, trying to second guess how many quotes you can close. A conversion for me is getting someone who wants self storage in Cardiff in contact with you, a conversion for you getting the sale. I still haven’t set a site up for this, never find the time, but I have started with an example http://www.microsite-example.co.uk/cost/.

I had this last month and took great pleasure in buying the domain name which was due to expire from under their noses… at a vastly reduced cost to the one they wanted to charge me for… agreeing with the comments above about relevancy – mine was actually my company name which was why I wanted it – if you get in yourself you do have the chance to buy it before they do – this is how they make their money… a quick check on the domain will tell you the status and when it is due to go back in to the pot for anyone to acquire.. the type of company who contacted us both makes their living doing this.

You were lucky to get it Amanda, especially if it was a company name, they tend to hang on to them. We’ve been after our domain in .com for years. Their latest offer is £2.5k! There is a way to give yourself an advantage, it’s called Drop Catch or Domain Snipping. It only works if the domain goes back on the market. some domains you’ll have no chance getting, they seems to be grabbed before they even hit the market.
