The answer is, no one knows!

Typically the DCMS (Department for Culture, Media and Sport), who are drawing up the law, have put out a statement saying “the technical solutions will not be complete by 25 May”.

Minister Ed Vaizey has said this would “cause uncertainty for businesses and consumers”. Really, do you think so Ed?

So where does it leave us mere mortals? How is the Information Commissioner’s Office going to enforce this?

All Dreamsight web sites have “This site uses cookies for statistical purposes only” in the footer of every page and full details in the privacy policy, but this might not be enough. If a visitor has to agree to accepting a cookie this will mean a pop-up on every web site on the Internet. And if the visitor has pop-ups blocked, what then?
