Content marketing works wonders. Every Digital marketer and entrepreneur out there knows this. Which is why it wouldn’t come as a shock to you that now, 85% of brands use it. But the problem lies with strategy- because less than half of these brands don’t actually think they’re any good at it.

This particular marketing technique (if done well, of course) can undeniably be a business owner’s best friend. It encourages and allows organizations to directly engage with their audience: potential and current customers; build a brand name and essentially sell products and increase revenue.

Thankfully, with this article you’ll learn the DO’S of marketing, and what you can do to be a successful in the trade.

Why quality always beats quantity in content marketing:

I’m sure a lot of you reading this will admit that ideally, you would love to see your follower count shoot up in numbers, but it’s important to know that having a high engagement-rate is much more effective in regards to getting. After all, what would you rather have? 100 online supporters interested in your content – who read, share and talk about your posts or 1,000 followers who connect with you, then completely disappear?

Your brands online posts can ultimately determine your company’s reputation and revenue simultaneously; for better or for worse. If the text you publish is valuable and relevant to your target audience, your posts can build trust, a following and brand awareness leading to sales.

If you want to raise engagement levels, you need to know that in all cases- quality beats quantity. It always has and always will. Publish compelling material (including a range of videos, photos and images) that appeal to your target audience and watch the results speak for themselves.

The importance of being patient with your social network:

Perseverance and persistence is the key to success in content marketing.

When I say be patient I don’t mean sit back and wait for fate to take its toll, or say a few prayers and hope for a miracle. What I mean is – your company’s social media isn’t going to become a success over night (as amazing as that would be), for noticeable success, you need to be in it for the long run.

My advice is to create an advertising strategy: know your target audience, the personality of your brand to portray and budget yourself. After you follow this through for a few weeks, you’ll be able to check your statistics, and have a clear understanding of what parts of your scheme works in your favour and what parts don’t; this will give you the opportunity to continue implementing the pieces which are working and improve the pieces which don’t.

It is important to have a vision of your goals, but don’t forget about the objectives along the way – every milestones is achieved by lots of small steps.

 The 80/20 Rule of advertisement:

There is no trade secret in becoming a success in marketing- trial and improvement and a lot of time spent learning the craft will give you a good foundation to make marketing the cash cow of your business – then all you’ve got to do is refine your skills.

A useful principle to carry out is ‘The 80/20 rule’ (also known as Pareto Principle) which is simply using 20% of your content to  promote your brand, then devoting the other 80% to content that engages your target audience.

Social media is intended to be appealing and communal – that’s why it’s called “social-media”. So, if you use social network solely to publicize your products and services, your audience will become disengaged after a while.

On the other hand, if you spend all your time completely focusing on interacting and connecting with your audience, yes, you may generate a large following, but how will your followers know who you are… or that you even sell any products or services?

The rule is essentially there to use as a template. Using this strategy to balance your posts can ultimately be used as a tool to improve your productivity; drawing your target market in by your content, then once you have created a likeability base you will then have a good audience to promote your services to.
